Grace Lanni is a hi-tech entrepreneur in Austin, Texas who found herself observing the use of technology by homecare nurses with elderly patients. Noticing many interesting dynamics between the homecare staff, the elder person and their families sparked the thought, “this homecare provider is likely the only bright light in this elder’s life.” The elders live for their weekly visits and do everything in their power to keep them in their homes as long as possible.
As someone who was close to her grandparents, and watched her family attend to them as they grew older, elders who didn’t have the care they needed was a foreign concept. Grace’s first act of elder service was to become a board member for The Care Communities – an organization providing volunteer family to those of life threatening illness who don’t have family or friends to support them.
Wisdom Network is in response to a conclusion – if we allow elders to loose their dignity, how do we restore it? Service is Grace’s answer – and what better way to serve than sharing and elder’s most treasured currency: the immense wisdom of life that elders hold. Elders inherently deserve merit, honor and respect for the knowledge gained as a human being experiencing long life on this planet; for this they deserve our gratitude.
Ms. Lanni is passionate about supporting families to live well. Her book, Be Inspired By Your Teen, RSE Press, supports parents of teenagers coping with this challenging stage of life. Often asked to be a speaker at schools, churches and corporate venues on parenting and wellness, Grace is thrilled to launch Wisdom Network into service.
